Introduced in 1971 to create interest in the last race of the evening.
Before this, the last race did not carry points or prize money and entries were falling. The title was first awarded to the winner of the meeting final.
From 1983 to 2012 it was a race with the grid determined by points scored in Grand Nationals over the whole season.
For 2013-2019 the title was awarded on overall GN points.
For 2021, the title reverted to a race.
