Bolton

Raikes Park Greyhound Stadium in the Burnden district of Bolton was built in 1927 on the site of the former Great Lever Colliery. Speedway was staged in 1928 and 1929.

An ambitious plan by promoters Vince Moody and Barry Watson saw a tarmac track with post and wire fence installed in 1992. Stringent restrictions on noise and time, coupled with a less than robust fence, led to some meetings being curtailed early.

The July 1994 meeting turned out to be the last one, as subsequent ones were cancelled. Bolton did not appear on the 1995 F1 fixture list, although Steve Rees took over and ran other formulae until the stadium was closed permanently the following year.
