Clouds of dust made stock car racing difficult in the first event, and after the firemen of the Bodmin unit of the Cornwall Fire Brigade had dampened down the track, fast speeds were achieved. Many of the cars were in bad condition after a season's gruelling racing, for several drivers had brought the same cars throughout the summer. (Cornish Guardian, 3rd October 1957.)
