Dick Protheroe

Full name Elmer Richard Protheroe. Born 1922. He was married to Rosemary Massey, of the tractor company.

Took up motor racing on his return from service with the RAF in Egypt. He ran a Jaguar dealership and was one of the first people ever to drive the Jaguar E-Type. He raced mainly Jaguars on the circuits from 1953 to 1966, and had a go in a stock car at Quibell Park, Scunthorpe in 1954. He died in a crash during practice at the RAC Tourist Trophy at Oulton Park in 1966.
