Newtongrange

Victoria Park was opened in 1924 as the ground of Newtongrange Star FC. Apart from football, it was also used for athletics, dog racing, band contests, boxing, and galas.

The first stock car meeting was staged by Dalkeith Car Club on 15th May 1959. The final was won by Bill Carbis, who also performed in the Wall of Fire stunt. This appears to have been a one-off meeting organised by locals, and was not under the offical Board Of Control.

GMP Scotland opened the stadium for stock car racing in March 1981, with tarmac laid over the cinder track previously used by the dogs. The track ran until 1988, and included the F1 Scottish Championship in 1986 and 1987.

The last ever football match was played in May 1994, and the stadium was demolished shortly afterwards to make way for housing.
