Liverpool

The introduction of greyhound racing in the late 1920s led to a lot of tracks being built, and by 1932 there were 4 rival tracks in Liverpool. Stanley Greyhound Stadium in the Old Swan district opened in 1927 for the dogs, with speedway arriving in 1936.

But speedway proved to be intermittent, and after the departure of the second team, The Liverpool Chads, in 1953, stock cars arrived the following year, and lasted for two seasons. Perhaps unsurprisingly, all of the meetings for which the results are known were won by Liverpool speedway stars.

After the post war boom in greyhound racing, crowds gradually dropped, and the stadium closed in 1961.
