Emails from Stoxnet
Stoxnet does not send regular emails, you you are not likely to receive many emails to the address that you supply on registration. You certainly will never receive commercial email or Spam and your email address will not be passed onto third parties. Stoxnet is hosted and maintained by Digital Red which is registered with the Information Commissioner under the Data Protection legislation (registration Z9240541).
You may receive communications from the forum in connection with the administration of your account but these are rare.
There are two types of member-generated emails which you may receive:
(1) The emails you are most likely to receive are Personal Message notifications: these are messages sent to your email address to let you know that you have a Personal Message waiting for you. If you prefer not to receive these message, you can turn them off at the Email Settings page by unticking the option "Send a confirmation email when I receive a new private message"
(2) The other type of email that you may receive are messages sent through the forum by other members using the Email link in your profile. You can turn off the ability for members to send you such messages on the Email Settings page by ticking the option labelled "Hide my email address from other members".
Neither of these two types of message will reveal your email address to other members: they are both generated by the forum and members cannot see your email address unless you send it to them or reply to their email. If you send a PM your email address remains private.
Starting Email Notifications
The Stoxnet forum used to allow you to receive an email when someone created a new topic or responded to a topic that you have posted in. This is no longer the case - unfortunately members were requesting that the forum send them such emails, and then reporting the emails as Spam to their email providers. The spam reports resorted in the Stoxnet server being blacklisted. Email notifications are now disabled by default.
You can now use RSS to be notified of both new and current topics on the forum - either using a program like Thunderbird on your PC, or by adding the Stoxnet RSS feed to your Google/Yahoo etc homepage.
Stopping Email Notifications
If you are still receiving email notifications, please turn them off on the Topic Subscriptions page and the Forum Subscriptions page - or if these have no effect for you, contact Daniel for help.
